Welcome to FACES
Thank you for visiting the FACES website, where we hope to provide you with insight into our mission and the projects we undertake in developing countries. FACES is a registered voluntary organisation, VO/0151, set up in Malta in February 2003. As an organisation, we aim to better the quality of life of individuals who due to poverty, displacement and other adverse situations are unable to access vital services such as health care and education. Through the provision of these services we aim to supply these underprivileged individuals with the opportunities necessary to realise their potential as human beings
Our Current Projects
FACES is currently running 3 projects in different parts of the world namely Nakuru, Kenya; Arequipa, Peru and Buza, Tanzania.
In Nakuru, Kenya, FACES funded the building of a new home (St. Gorg Preca Home) for orphans of St. Joseph the Worker Parish who were previously housed in a very poor living environment. This orphanage was opened in September 2008 and currently houses 59 children with ages ranging from 5 to 23 years. FACES now coordinates a sponsorship program for these very children financing all their education fees, books and uniforms.
FACES also sponsors a number of children’s education in Arequipa, Peru. Due to extremely low salaries, many families struggle to provide the family with their daily meals, let alone to pay the education for their children. A year’s work of some FACES’ members in Arequipa helped establish contact with several families in need, and led to the development of a project aimed at giving these children an opportunity to continue with their education.
In 2009, FACES embarked on a new project in Buza, a slum area on the outskirts of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, running a temporary clinic and school aimed at improving the quality of life and opportunities available to people residing in this slum area. The clinic offered free medical services and medication, while the classes of English, ICT and Life-Skills were offered to children and adults who would have received basic or no education. We will be returning in the summer of 2010 as the first step in achieving our longer term vision of FACES having a permanent presence in Buza in terms of education and health care.
